ZOMBIES

Around Halloween, zombie walks have been held in Montreal since 2008. People disguise themselves as the undead and march together acting as reanimated human corpses.

Zombie walks have been taking place in big cities around the world starting with the new millennium. The zombie is a will-less and speechless frightening humanoid creature who supposedly has died and been supernaturally reanimated, but without human qualities. Zombies cannot think and are often shown as attacking and eating human beings. They can be found in horror and fantasy genre works. They can symbolize apathy or a mindless adherence to authority. The concept of a zombie apocalypse, whereby the civilized world is brought down by a global zombie infestation, may be a way for people to deal with their anxieties about the possibility of the end of the world as we know it, more so in the increasingly troubled times we live in.

The photographs in this series were all taken during the Montreal Zombie Walks of 2015 and 2017.
